Bentley at the Geneva Motor Show – it’s not just cars

The Bentley Breitling Watch - on sale at the Bentley Boutique at the Geneva Motor Show

It looks like Bentley are taking the whole ‘Merchandise’ thing as seriously as Ferrari do. Perhaps they decided last year – when Bentley were selling next to no cars – that shoving the Bentley logo on a range of upmarket toys was a way to bring in some much needed revenue. It was even reported at the nadir of Bentley sales that they had their craftsmen – who had nothing to do – churning out some bespoke furniture.

So we shouldn’t be surprised that Bentley are going to have the ‘Bentley Boutique‘ at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show to showcase a range of Bentley branded goodies including Bentley badged Breitling watches, Tibaldi pens, Stockinger safes, Estede eyewear and zai skis.

But the centrepiece of the Bentley Boutique will be a range of small leather goods like luggage tags, key fobs, passport holders and coin purses created by Robert Ettinger and themed around Bentley’s latest colour range – ‘A Celebration of Colour’, according to Bentley.

For us, the Bentley stars at the Geneva Motor Show will be the new Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible and the 2010 Bentley Mulsanne. So although Bentley will be willing customers to fork out a shed load of money on either the Supersports Convertible or the Mulsanne, they’re willing to take revenue wherever they can grab it.

So if you’re a Bentley fan who owns a ski chalet in Gstaad,  has a need for bespoke luggage complete with custom tags; needs a safe to keep a wad of Swiss Francs in; fancies a new set of skis and sunglasses to wear whilst timing your run down the slopes on your Breitling and has a contract or three to sign, then the Bentley Boutique at the Geneva Motor Show has been created just for you.

Seems a fairly narrow demographic. And we’ll refrain from speculating on the likely owners of such a profile.
