Skoda Superb Combi – Frankfurt Catchup

Fri, 18 Sep 2009

The Skoda Superb Combi launched at Frankfurt

The Skoda Superb Combi. The Skoda Superb Albert Hall would be a better name. This thing is vast, but conspires to look cohesive rather than barn like – no mean feat. And it offers so much it makes you wonder why anyone with the need for a classy, well-equipped and hugely able load carrier would even consider something from Volvo or any of the ‘Premium’ names.

The Superb Combi gets stretched to 4848mm long (15′ 12″) and offers 633 litres of boot space – with the back seats up. Put them down and the space increases to a grand-piano lugging 1865 litres. Skoda is offering an optional electric boot control, where the boot cover automatically moves to its middle position to open up more space for comfortable luggage handling. The floor platform can be moved out over the rear bumper when the tailgate is open, making loading big objects a doddle. Also on offer is KESSY, a keyless entry and start system.

Engine choices mimic those in the superb saloon/hatch and kick off with the 102bhp, 2.0 litre diesel going on up to the 3.6 litre V6 with 360bhp. And Skoda are also intending offering the V6 with four wheel drive. Perfect for that boot sale excursion in a muddy field.

The Skoda Superb Estate is due in the UK in February 2010, with prices starting from around £17,500.
