1970's Muskin El Tigre

These bikes were marketed as a “Midi-Cycle”. With the El Tigre and El Gato, Muskin wanted to separate itself from minibikes by completely making up a new category of motorcycles.

Utilizing an 80cc Fuji two-stroke (predecessor to all the Hodaka units that would soon make their way to US shores), these bikes had an advertised 6.6 horsepower, four-speed transmission, and weight of 125 pounds, which was indeed much larger than competing minibikes.

With a low seat height and wide bars, it was small enough for kids, but big enough for adults, helping it’s claim of being an “All Family” bike.

This one was a non running barn find I bought a few years ago as a winter project.

Trying to make some space now for other projects.

It starts easily, runs/shifts/stops.
Repainted frame/swing arm/forks/bars/fenders/stand....
Disassembled wheels/painted rims and spokes; re-spoked/trued with new rim bands, tubes, tires.
Rebuilt carb, disassembled, inspected/cleaned/painted engine.
Rewired in new kill switch.
New clutch and front brake levers.
New cables.
New throttle.
New chain.
Replaced nuts/bolts with stainless steel wherever possible.

The cool flat track looking one piece tank cover and seat base is in good overall condition although there is a faint outline of where a Fox decal was removed from the rear.  I'm not sure if the orange is OEM or was a respray. I liked the patina and so left it as is. The pics I've seen on line of others have been yellow.

This is not a factory original restoration.
It's a very clean, well sorted example of motorcycling history.

Wed, 28 Mar 2012

New Toyota Avalon Tease? Toyota are teasing a new saloon car ahead of next month’s New York Auto Show, which is probably the replacement for the Toyota Avalon. The Toyota Avalon is a saloon car we don’t get in Europe, but it is Toyota’s top of the tree car in the States.

UK Government cuts car aid, EV grants at risk

Wed, 30 Jun 2010

By Tim Pollard Motor Industry 30 June 2010 15:48 Britain's business secretary Vince Cable today fired a warning shot across the bows of the car industry, saying that subsidies would end and warning that the pledged £5000 subsidy off the first electric cars was in peril.'Our starting point is very clear,' he told delegates at an automotive summit arranged by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. 'We've moved on from the era of subsidies. We just have to be realistic about what's affordable.'Cable said the new coalition Conservative-Liberal Government had not yet decided whether or how to implement the new low-carbon vehicle subsidies promised under Labour, which had set aside £250m in initial funding.'It is still actively under consideration,' said Cable.
